Dr. Barry Waldman M.D., FAAOS Johns Hopkins Medical School Sinai Hospital 410.377.8900
Thank you for restoring my "quality of life." My hip feels as good as the other one, I was born with and that's because I had a good surgeon.
Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement
Dr. Waldman has been one of the pioneers in minimally invasive total hip replacement. Using an approach tailor made to each patient, he is able to make a smaller incision and preserve more muscle than has been possible in the past. By varying the technique, almost every patient is a candidate for this type of surgery.
Dr. Waldman has worked with a number of implant manufacturers on designing implants specifically designed for a minamally invasive approach. Implants used are both smaller, and more easily inserted than the larger ones used in the past. This technique saves bone in case future surgery is needed and lessens damage to surrounding muscle during the surgery.
Many patients who have an minimally invasive approach are able to walk the day of the surgery. They often have less pain, and do not have to observe the usual hip precautions after their surgery. This makes recovery easier and simpler. Learn more about hip surgery.
